GRAFFITI AND ITS EVOLUTION AS AN ARTISTIC PHENOMENON IN THE 20TH CENTURY

Abstract

Graffiti as an independent visual language with its arsenal of artistic techniques was formed in the second half of the 20th century. This vivid artistic phenomenon is of interest to art historians due to its characteristic stylistic features, internal philosophy and rich history. Various techniques and approaches in the creative expression of street artists from different continents allow us to talk about important forms and directions related to the evolutionary processes taking place in the cultural urban environment. The attention to street art practices from the Western art establishment is associated with its uncontrolled spread and creative potential. The acceptance and validation of graffiti also fit into the framework of ideological recuperation, turning any form of defiance into an agent of “one’s own” influence.
